Design and code wearable or implantable sensor technologies to improve quality of life.
Learning Program Overview
Working in groups, students research the world of biotechnology from wearables to implants and decided on a problem they feel motivated (through compassion for people) to try address.
The program is student directed and encourages discovery of real issues affecting real demographics. Bendigo’s healthcare services are already utilising technological innovation in prostheses, nutrition and robotics, and the program is structured and facilitated so as to encourage sharing of personal insights and experiences students may have. This aims to promote the development of empathy and emotional intelligence as each group subsequently assesses the core healthcare issues facing various people. Through the process of Design Thinking, students become their groups’ specialists in different prototyping technologies, create ideas and prototype solutions. Ultimately, each group will pitch their solution to the class and receive feedback.
Success Criteria
• Substantial consideration for relevant stakeholder affected by Bendigo’s healthcare systems.
• Ideas and reasons for decisions are clearly communicated during pitch.
• Demonstrate understanding of the Design Thinking model as a creative problem-solving tool.
