Flynn worked hard to upskill in lasercutting techniques to produce a resource that will be utilised in our Flat-pack Housing program. Keep reading to hear from Flynn about his experience working with us!

“On my week of work experience at the Bendigo Tech School, I dove right into the world of advanced manufacturing, learning to use programs like Inkscape and Autodesk Inventor to design projects that I then made on 3D printers, laser and water jet cutters. I learned new ways to prototype efficiently and adjust my designs to produce an ideal final product. Using the laser cutter, I created a tile game for students to empathize with in their Flat-pack Housing program and a demo 3D model house for students to base their own model houses off.

I was also interested in using the water jet cutter to create a metalwork project. My idea was to make something simple and fun, but high-quality. Something you could have on your desk or your coffee table as a bit of a conversation starter. I chose to make a tangram puzzle, with a wooden frame cut on the laser cutter, and thick aluminum pieces cut on the water jet cutter for a really satisfying feel when you place the pieces in.

I also learnt how businesses organize their team and work together to get the job done. It was a very busy week at the Tech School, but their cohesion and work ethic made sure they maximised their productivity to keep everything on the right track. I learnt a lot from this experience and hope to be back one day working with these fantastic people who do great things for STEAM in Bendigo. It makes me want to work harder at school to be able to do a job like this one day.”
