Who & What: Shortlisted Bendigo secondary student teams present their idea at the Thales +Tech School Design Competition Regional pitch final
When: Tuesday 22 October, 6.00pm
Where: Bendigo Tech School, Level 3, Engineering and Technology Building, La Trobe University, Bendigo
Facing a panel of judges from industry, shortlisted Thales + Bendigo Tech School Design Competition students are pitching their ideas against one another to make our community better and safer.
Students have responded to the competition brief using sensor technology, and will be presenting tech solutions that include safer cycling, an epilepsy sensor, a bush fire detector and a pollen detector.
Director of the Bendigo Tech School Graeme Wiggins says that the students involved in the competition have been working with designers and engineers from Thales and the Industry experts, to design, test and market their concept.
“Teams of students have been exploring applications for sensor technology and data linked to the Thales’ vision to make life better, to keep us safer and learning the skills to pitch an idea,” says Graeme. “The winner from each Tech School Regional Final will then attend a State Pitch Final in November to determine a winner from all the Tech Schools involved.”
“The Bendigo Tech School provides opportunities for young people to experience and develop the skills required for the future of work,” says Graeme.
“Applying design thinking and the latest tech to ‘real-world’ issues in partnership with Industry, gives young people the skills and experience they need to be successful in the future work place.”
This competition is a pilot initiative of Ballarat, Bendigo, Casey and Yarra Ranges Tech Schools, in partnership with Thales Group and the Department of Education.
